What is Back to Life?
Back to Life offers practical and emotional support to young adults recovering from mental health issues. The mentoring scheme helps adults aged 18-35 in Southwark, Lambeth, Lewisham and Croydon to reach their full potential.
Someone recovering from a mental health issue may not have the support they need to regain their confidence and move on with their life. A trained volunteer mentor can give friendly and neutral advice about setting realistic goals and taking steps to achieve them.
Back to Life matches young adults who have experienced a mental illness and are looking to build their personal, professional and social skills back up, with a same-sex mentor of a similar age.
What does a mentoring relationship involve?
As part of the scheme, you will spend about 5 hours a month for 6 months with the person you are matched with. Every relationship is different but you may:
- work on developing job skills
- go out for a coffee and a chat
- get involved with a new activity, hobby or sport
- develop communication skills and confidence
